About
PLAN
PLAN (PLAN (Planned
Lifetime Advocacy Network) is an organization dedicated
to securing the future for people with disabilities and their families. Created
in
1989 by families in British Columbia, PLAN is a not-for-profit charity that
assists
and supports families in responding to all of aspects of the safety, security
and
well-being of people with disabilities, particularly after their parents
become infirm
or die.
PLAN's work enhances
the quality of life and security of people with disabilities
by building a safety net of diverse programs - secured networks of family
and
friends, increased financial independence, and avenues for true contribution
and citizenship - that can withstand the death of their parents as well as
unpredicted changes in government-funded support services.
PLAN's vision is a good
life for all people with disabilities and their families.
Our mission is to secure the future for people with disabilities and to provide
them
and their families with peace of mind. This means ending isolation and loneliness,
creating financial security, enabling everyone to make a contribution, ensuring
choice, and creating genuine homes.
In our work to secure
good lives for people with disabilities and their families,
PLAN is guided and inspired by four core values:
-
Relationships
are the key to safety, security and a good life
-
Contribution
equals citizenship - PLAN works to ensure the people it serves
are seen for their
unique contributions
-
Self-sufficiency
- diversity of revenue sources and independence from
government funding
enable PLAN to advocate on behalf of individuals and
families without fear
of consequence
-
Family
direction - PLAN is structured to ensure it will always be directed by
and accountable to
families.
