Executive
Summary
PLAN implemented the
social audit to enhance its accountability and strengthen its services.
Our 2005 goals were to:
- Strengthen relationships
across the organization
- Assess how well we
are living our core values
- Determine how effectively
we are serving members
- Explore how growth
and change are impacting the organization.
This year, for the
first time, we were able to include network members and associates in our
survey. The findings in this Accountability Report identify many areas of
strength for PLAN. Growth has been thoughtful and positive. Personal Support
Networks are at the very heart of our work and after 16 years, they are
stronger and more vibrant than ever. Relationships are thriving and have
blossomed over time. It is clear that personal networks are making a significant
difference in people's lives; families have a great deal of confidence in
PLAN and more peace of mind; network members value their relationships.
The findings demonstrate that people involved with PLAN share core values
and a common vision and want to share it with others. They believe in our
policy work to create a good life for people who have disabilities. Families
continue to determine PLAN's goals, objectives and strategies. The social
audit is an opportunity for them and other stakeholders (network members,
facilitators and staff) to evaluate the effectiveness of our work and guide
our growth. We thank them for sharing their thoughts with us.
This 2005 social audit
completes the first full cycle of PLAN’s accountability process. In this
social audit, PLAN reports on the progress towards 22 targets identified
after the completion of the initial audit. These targets formed part of
PLAN’s strategic planning process. Completion of this subsequent social
audit identifies the effectiveness of the strategic plan and the veracity
of the benchmarks set in the first audit.
17 of the 22 targets
set by PLAN's Board in the 2002 social audit process were achieved. The
most significant area for development remains in the areas related to funding
and self-sufficiency. We will continue to pursue the remaining 5 targets
and seek new challenges as PLAN’S Board embarks upon the next phase of its
strategic planning process.
PLAN will undertake
its next social audit in 2007.
