Development
When
asked what three things come to mind when you think about your
work with PLAN, staff responded with, "inspirational, exciting,
a fun place
to work and in line with PLAN values." "Getting to know
focus people,
teamwork, independence, flexibility and opportunity" were
all identified as
positive aspects. One participant felt there was more work to do
than time
allotted. Also noted was the lack of opportunity for job advancement.
It was
felt management needed to be proactive and address issues of workload
and financial compensation. Raises should be anticipated; "someone
should be
looking after the staff to prevent burnout" and a job description
for both
part time and full time staff was identified as needed.
- Growth
Staff
identified the waitlist, the length of time it takes for a family
to be
connected with a facilitator as an area for concern. In general
staff felt some
families were better served than others. Some staff wondered if
direct billing of families dictated the outcome of the network depending
on the family's financial situation. The question was asked; "PLAN
is very dependent on a few individuals. What would happen to PLAN
if something happened to these individuals"?
There was concern that with rapid growth PLAN might be "losing attention
to developing solidness in the Lower Mainland." It was noted
not all families were aware of the family mentorship program for
support and it was concluded better family-to-family communication
and support was needed. Regional meetings
were suggested as a way to improve communication along with more
opportunities for celebration.
- Communication
Staff
expressed a need to be better informed regarding PLAN activities,
staff schedules and staff job descriptions. The office wasn't always
notified
re: changes in facilitators and occasionally it was difficult to
find time to talk to PLAN management. While some staff identified
a need for a more formal review process including the opportunity
to raise issues, other staff did not know how
they stood on this issue. Some staff were concerned with PLAN's
growth and
one staff member did not feel a real sense of team work. Staff agreed
everyone worked well together and all felt PLAN staff were approachable.
